Lowline Angus are a relatively new breed. They were developed by the Australian government and first imported into the United States in the mid 1990's." Lowline cattle are a selected strain of Aberdeen Angus cattle bred for many generations for smaller stature, roughage conversion, and efficiency of red meat production. All Fullblood cattle trace directly to the foundation herd in Australia."

They are somewhat smaller than a conventional Angus but not drawfs or miniatures in any way. In a lot of ways, they are more like the cattle of the 1950's before everything including cattle became "supersized." "Mature Lowline bulls will generally fall into a range of 40-48 inches measured at the shoulder and weight from 900-1500 pounds. Mature cows should measure from 38-46 inches and weigh between 700-1100 pounds."

They are hardy in all climates ranging from Australia to the Northern tier of the United States and adjoining Canada.

Lowlines are classified as Fullbloods if their ancestry can be traced back to Australia without any infusions from other breeds.

Animals that have bred up to 7/8 status can be registered as Pure Breds. All registered animals must be DNA tested before becoming eligible for registration.

Lowlines are classified and registered by the American Lowline Registry www.usa-lowline.org
